To order 'Two Children and It' click here!"Two Children and It" is an exciting tale of enchantment that combines the magical powers of an ancient and cantankerous Psammead, with the wondrous imagination of our two main characters, <% =request.form("demoheroinename") %> and <% =request.form("demoherofirstname")%> . The Psammead, also known as a sand-fairy, is the 'It' in our story and grants our dynamic duo one wish each day.  The result of these wishes thankfully lasts only until sunset, because the outcome is usually quite unexpected.  The following are three personalized excerpts...

From Chapter One - "Beautiful as the Day"
<% =request.form("demoheroinename") %> makes a most unusual discovery...

Psammead
Circa 2002

... Finally, <% =request.form("demoheroinename") %> couldn’t wait and yelled out to <% =request.form("demoherofirstname")%>, “I’m not afraid! Let me dig.” And <% response.write mainheshe %> promptly fell to <% response.write mainhisher %> knees and began to scratch like a dog does when it suddenly remembers where it has buried its bone. Perspiration was beginning to drip from the ends of  <% response.write mainhisher %> <% =request.form("demoheroinehair") %> hair as <% =request.form("demoheroinename") %> dutifully dug, scoop after scoop.
“Oh, I felt fur,” <% response.write mainheshe %> cried, half-laughing and half-crying, “I did, I really did!” Suddenly a dry husky voice in the sand made them both jump back, and their hearts jumped nearly as fast as they did.
“Leave me alone,” it said. Both of the friends heard the voice and looked at the other to see if they had heard it too.
“But we want to see you,” <% =request.form("demoheroinename") %> said bravely.
“I wish you’d come out,” said <% =request.form("demoherofirstname")%>, also taking courage.
“Oh, well… If that is your wish,” the voice said, and the sand stirred and spun and scattered, and something brown and furry and fat came rolling into the hole and the sand fell off it. And it sat there yawning and rubbing the ends of its eyes with its hands. “I believe I must have fallen asleep,” it said while it stretched.
<% =request.form("demoheroinename") %> and <% =request.form("demoherofirstname")%> stood at the edge of the hole quietly inspecting the creature they’d found. It was worth looking at. Its eyes were on long horns like a snail’s eyes, and it could move them in and out like telescopes. It had ears like a bat’s ears, and its tubby body was shaped like a spider’s and covered with thick soft fur. Its legs and arms were furry too, and it had hands and feet like a monkey’s.
     “What on earth is it?” asked <% =request.form("demoheroinename") %>, <% response.write mainhisher %> <% response.write " " %> <% =request.form("heroineeyecolor") %> eyes wide with excitement. “Should we take it home?”
The thing turned its long eyes to look at <% =request.form("demoherofirstname")%> as it spoke, and said, “Does <% response.write mainheshe %> always talk such nonsense, or is it the hat on <% response.write mainhisher %> head that makes <% response.write mainhimher %> look so silly?” It looked scornfully at <% =request.form("demoheroinename") %> again and the funky hat sitting atop <% response.write mainhisher %> <% response.write " " %> <% =request.form("demoheroinehair") %> hair. “I am a Psammead, as if you didn't know"...

From Chapter Two - "Gold Coins"
Wealth does not always bring happiness...

...Mr. Langford, the horse trader piped in, “Oh, sure, two kids with pockets full of gold coins? Doesn’t seem likely to me. We’ll soon find out though, now won’t we?” Then he looked at <% =request.form("demoheroinename") %> and said, “And you; dragging your friend into this. I’ll let <% response.write friendhimher %> go if you promise to tell the police the truth about this whole matter.”
“I won’t go,” said <% =request.form("demoherofirstname")%> heroically, “not without <% =request.form("demoheroinename") %>. It’s my gold just as much as it anyone's, you mean old fart!”
Now a word of advice to our readers: Mr. Langford had raised an eyebrow and was obviously upset with the name calling. He wasn’t so much upset about being called mean or a fart but old was definitely a no, no…
“Where’d you get the gold, then?” asked Mr. Langford, softening slightly. (Which was not at all what <% =request.form("demoheroinename") %> expected when <% =request.form("demoherofirstname")%> began to call him names).
     <% =request.form("demoherofirstname")%> cast a conspiratorial glance to <% =request.form("demoheroinename") %>.
“Cat got your tongue, eh? You didn’t have a problem speaking when you were calling me names. Come on now, speak up. Where did you get it?”
“From a gravel pit,” answered <% =request.form("demoheroinename") %>, who, as usual, remained truthful.
“Yeah, right,” Mr. Langford uttered disdainfully.
“We DID!” <% =request.form("demoherofirstname")%> exclaimed. “There’s a sand-fairy there, all covered with brown fur, and it has ears like a bat’s and eyes like a snail’s, and it gives us a wish each day, and they all come true.”

From Chapter Seven - "A Siege and a Bed"
Another wish goes awry...

...“Yo! You there!” called Jakin. The two children glared at Jakin and the soldiers in response. “Surrender in the name of my lord, Sir Jefferson Wiltshire, or your heads shall be mine!” (It seemed to <% =request.form("demoherofirstname")%> that Jakin and his Lord had not guessed that the castle housed only two children and <% =request.form("demoheroinefriend") %>.) “Do ye surrender?”
“Never!” chorused <% =request.form("demoheroinename") %> and <% =request.form("demoherofirstname")%>, their eyes shining with defiance and an odd sense of bravery.
“So be it,” said Lord Jefferson, who was perched atop a gray, noble-looking steed. Jakin, sighed with noticeable regret and drew his sword threateningly. <% =request.form("demoheroinename") %> gulped audibly - a lump the size of a small car seemed to be forming in <% response.write mainhisher %> throat.
“CHARGE!” yelled Lord Jefferson, causing an intimidating roar to go up from the soldiers around him, and signifying the beginning of what was sure to be a mighty battle.
The two friends heard a gigantic splash and saw soldiers madly galloping across the moat. A disturbing clang sounded and <% =request.form("demoherofirstname")%> flew down the stairs to find that Jakin had part-way climbed the iron gate and was fiddling with the levers that worked the drawbridge. <% =request.form("demoherofirstname")%> yelled a full report to <% =request.form("demoheroinename") %>
Not knowing what else to do, <% =request.form("demoheroinename") %> chucked a stone as hard as <% response.write mainheshe %> could out the window straight at Jakin, who yelped when it struck him in the buttocks. “I’ve been hit!” he cried, running like a maniac and jumping onto his horse, galloping back across the moat.
Giggling, <% =request.form("demoherofirstname")%> ran back upstairs. Some warrior <% response.write friendheshe %> thought.
By now, <% =request.form("demoheroinename") %> was crouching beneath the window, clutching two large rocks in <% response.write mainhisher %> hands. Suddenly, there was a loud bang. Glancing out the window, <% =request.form("demoheroinename") %> saw why; Jakin and seven other men were heaving the battering ram at the door. “Come on, <% =request.form("demoherofirstname")%>,” <% =request.form("demoheroinename") %> urged. “Let’s throw rocks at them. It’s our only hope.”
